A new color of M&M’s debuts after 10 years

"Purple" is the third female character of the popular chocolates

Lilac is the new color of M&M’s that the brand introduces in its popular chocolate bars.

M&M’s is, without a doubt, one of the most popular chocolates in the world. The brand was created in 1939 when Forrest Mars and R. Bruce Murries saw them eating some Englishmen during the Spanish Civil War and shortly after bought the rights to sell them in the United States. To give a name to the brand they used the initials of their last names (M&M’s).

The candies were originally made in six colors: red, orange, yellow, green, brown, and blue; to which a new color is now added: purple

To celebrate the new color of M&M’s, the brand has launched a fun advertising campaign through social networks with different intriguing messages. The lilac color is intended to “represent acceptance and inclusion” according to the brand.

The commercial places us in the casting of the new color of M&M’s and how he prepares performing a song called “I’m Just Gonna Be Me”. During the scenes we see the saxophonist Grace Kelly, the dancers Devin Santiago and Colo Cag or the opera singer Anthony Roth Costanzo.

The creation of the new color of M&M’s occurs after the brand renewed the image of its pets in January to make them more inclusive. According to the brand, in a statement: “We aim to increase the feeling of belonging by 10 million people by the year 2025. For each reproduction on the main music platforms, M&M’s will donate a dollar to Sign for Hope to harness the power of the arts to bring hope, connection and purpose to millions of people around the world.”

According to Jane Hwang, Global Vice President of Mars Wrigley: “Mars is excited to introduce the world to the newest member of the M&M’S cast of characters. There is so much about her that people will appreciate and relate to, including her willingness to embrace its true self: it reminds us to celebrate what makes us unique.
