Wimbledon’s animated commercial puts the spotlight on Center Court at the tournament, which celebrates 100 years.
Wimbledon’s “Centre Court” is one of those places in the UK that takes you back in time. A stadium that exudes mysticism everywhere, just like Wembley, Anfield or Old Trafford; and that celebrates 100 years of memorable matches.
To celebrate, the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) has made a video tribute before the celebration of the historic tournament that begins on June 27.
“The Stage Awaits” is the title of the animated Wimbledon commercial created by McCann London and directed by Alan Smith and Adam Foulkes. It puts us in the shoes of three young tennis fans and how they fight to succeed on Wimbledon’s Center Court.
During the journey we see represented the most important players who have made history in the tournament. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams or Novak Djokovic are some of the champions that appear in the Wimbledon animated advertisement, as well as characteristic elements of the event such as outfits, hats or sunglasses.
According to Alexandra Willis, Director of Communications and Marketing at the AELTC: “After two years of disruption, we couldn’t be more excited to once again welcome fans from around the world to Wimbledon. We can’t wait to see what the next hundred years have in store for us.”
For their part, filmmakers Smith & Foulkes commented: “This is the kind of briefing you dream of. Working with a much-loved national institution and turning it into a vivid dream. We’ve looked at the iconic images of Wimbledon through a lens of surreal invention, and we’ve filled every scene with unexpected twists.”
