Waitrose Christmas Advert | The Perfect Gift

The Waitrose Christmas advert is a romantic story with Love Actually and Notting Hill vibes.

There was a time when, at Christmas, British romantic comedies with holiday-inspired love stories premiered. Love Actually is a clear example of the legacy left by films such as Notting Hill or Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Now, the supermarket chain Waitrose delights us with the return of love stories through an advertising campaign that tells the romance between poor Phil and none other than Keira Knightley.

Waitrose – “The Perfect Gift”

The Waitrose Christmas advert is titled “The Perfect Gift.” It was created by the agency Wonderhood Studios and directed by Molly Manners. The piece presents a romantic comedy with a cinematic soul.

It all begins with a classic meet-cute at the Waitrose cheese counter. Knightley and Joe Wilkinson both ask for the same cheese: a slice of Sussex Charmer Mature Cheddar. From that moment on, the story builds a connection between the two characters through food, memories, and everyday gestures.

The story unfolds through references to the romantic genre and charming scenes, leading up to a climactic moment: Phil confesses his love by recreating Keira’s grandmother’s pie recipe, the origin of Waitrose’s famous No.1 Festive Turkey Pie.

The soundtrack, “She’s a Star” by the British band James, enhances the story’s optimistic and nostalgic tone while paying tribute to the leading actress as the true star of the piece.

According to Nathan Ansell, Chief Customer Officer at Waitrose: “Our Christmas short film pays tribute to the seasonal romantic comedy, celebrates our festive food range, and adds a warm touch to the season. It’s the perfect Waitrose gift for you.”
