The bond between football and snacks has always been strong, which is why the popular potato chip brand Lay’s is one of the main official sponsors of the Champions League. The brand has cleverly leveraged this partnership with fun and creative campaigns.

The “No Lay’s, No Game” campaign has become a classic in the lead-up to Champions League matches. Now, Lay’s has taken it a step further by bringing together football legends Messi, Suárez, Henry, and Putellas on a quest to find the best bar to watch a Champions League match.

“The Lay’s Crawl” is the title of the Lays commercial, continuing the “No Lay’s, No Game” campaign that the brand uses in its Champions League sponsorship.

The ad presents two different settings: in Miami, Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez; and in Barcelona, Thierry Henry and Alexia Putellas. Both duos set out to find the best bar to watch a Champions League match, much to the surprise of unsuspecting customers. However, there’s one key requirement: the bar must serve Lay’s to share.

Alexis Porter, Global Vice President of Lay’s, commented: “Our consumers choose Lay’s to fully enjoy every match because we offer something unique with our potato chips: bringing people together. With this third edition of ‘No Lay’s, No Game,’ we’re taking fan connection to the next level by bringing together some of the greatest football legends.

The stars of the ad also shared their thoughts on the experience of visiting fans. Messi, in Miami, stated: “Luis and I had a great time surprising fans in Miami. It’s not easy for us to watch a match in a bar like ‘normal fans,’ so it was a very special day.”

Meanwhile, Alexia Putellas highlighted: “I will never forget the fans’ reactions—it was incredible. Being able to surprise fans and work with a brand like Lay’s, which shares this joy and passion for the game, has been an honor.”

Lastly, Thierry Henry emphasized the emotional aspect: “Watching football is a social act. As a child, I used to watch matches with my father while eating chips, and now I’m passing that tradition on to my family.”
