The Adidas advert features Samuel L. Jackson as the star of a campaign that reimagines the Superstar sneakers.
Some brands have managed to transcend advertising to become true cultural icons. One of them is undoubtedly Adidas, a brand embraced by the hip hop movement and 90s Britpop, led by Oasis.
In a smart move, the brand separated its classic collection from its more modern campaigns, giving birth to Adidas Originals. Now, the brand reimagines its 1969 Superstar sneakers and partners with Samuel L. Jackson to launch a stylish campaign.

“Superstar, the original” is the title of the Adidas Originals advert created by the agency Johannes Leonardo, directed by Thibaut Grevet, and starring and narrated by Samuel L. Jackson.
In the spot, the actor reflects on the nature of the Superstars — sneakers that have managed to retain their essence for over 50 years. The narrative is supported by evocative black-and-white imagery featuring a cast that represents different creative disciplines: music, film, sports, and fashion.
In the Adidas Originals advert, we see Teezo Touchdown playing the piano, GloRilla dancing on a limousine, and Anthony Edwards wondering whether it’s him or Samuel L. Jackson actually speaking. Missy Elliott breaks the fourth wall and answers a phone call in which she confesses she’s filming an ad for Adidas. All of this happens as the clocks mark the passing of time… and culture.
Adidas Originals’ VP of Marketing, Annie Barrett, commented: “Adidas Superstars have always been much more than just sneakers. They’re a symbol of originality and an icon that sparks cultural change. On the streets and on major global stages, these sneakers have been worn — and continue to be worn — by those who don’t ask for permission to lead.”
