“Welcome to the City of Love” is the title of the BBC promo for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. It was made by Nexus Studios and directed by the Franco-British FX Goby. It combines love and sport to the rhythm of the song “Hymne à l’amour” by Édith Piaf and the voice-over is by Frenchman Pierre Maubouché.
The BBC promo takes us to the streets of Paris, where couples in love transform into Olympic athletes. A representation of the perfect union between love and sport that runs through the most emblematic monuments of the capital. The Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame and the Sacré-Cœur are some of the locations in an eternal sunset with pink and blue hues.
The voice-over of actor Pierre Maubouché expresses the parallel between love and sport: “It makes you do crazy things, it makes your head spin, your heart races”. The BBC promo immediately seduced the French public, generating enthusiasm on social networks and being one of the trends of the Olympic Games.
