Deutsche Telekom’s commercial wants to make parents aware of posting photos of their children on social media.

The dangers of social networks have been there since they were launched. The doomsayers have been predicting the end of days every time a social network is released. It happened with YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and now with TikTok.

But what were once warnings to which we turned a deaf ear can now be seen as real thanks to technology. This is what the Deutsche Telekom commercial denounces, which focuses on the ease of fathers and mothers in publishing photos of their children on social networks.

“Share With Care” is the title of the Deutsche Telekom commercial made by the agency adam&eve Berlin. He wants to denounce the dangers of publishing photos of children and adolescents on social networks and for this they have used DeepFake technology to carry out an impressive campaign.

The protagonist is Ella, a little girl whose parents, like many others, have posted photos of her on social networks. On her birthday, on vacation or on a school outing. Ella’s parents don’t overexpose her daughter, but they want family and friends to know how her daughter is doing.

Deutsche Telekom’s commercial is a hidden camera of Ella surprising her parents with a video made using DeepFake technology. In it we see how, digitized, the protagonist is already an adult woman and warns them about the consequences of sharing her images on the Internet. Little by little, she is exposing situations that could affect her in the future, and that are feasible thanks to current technology.

According to a study, a five-year-old child has an average of 1,500 photos of himself online, published by his parents or close relatives. These photos are exposed to the creation of false profiles, facial recognition or pedophilia.

According to Uli Klenke Brand Director of Deutsche Telekom: “Telekom offers the most secure access to the network. But we also need the knowledge and tools necessary for a safe and responsible handling of data on the Internet. In the campaign we let AI help us warn about itself and underline fascination and wonder at the same time. We have to learn to deal with both factors appropriately.”
