The Google Pixel Christmas advert reimagines the holiday classic to connect with new generations

Christmas ads continue to appear, now trickling in. After the major retailers flooded early November with their holiday campaigns, it’s now the turn of tech companies — specifically, Google.

And it does so with a full tribute to one of the most iconic Christmas classics of the season: Love Actually. Years after the film, Google has reunited most of its cast to star in its Christmas campaign.

Google Pixel – “It’s Pixel, Actually”

The Google Pixel Christmas advert is titled “It’s Pixel, Actually” and has been created by Google’s in-house team. The piece focuses on Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who reprises the role of the young boy learning to play the drums to win over his school crush, and Martine McCutcheon, remembered for her role as the secretary to the British Prime Minister.

The story of the Google Pixel Christmas advert follows Brodie-Sangster during the holiday season. The actor wanders along the banks of the Thames, clinging to the fame tied to the movie and hoping to be recognized by fans. When it seems people are approaching him to take photos, the humorous twist reveals they are actually capturing something completely different.

Google uses this situation to highlight the zoom capability of the Pixel 10 Pro, which can offer up to 100x magnification thanks to its telephoto camera, without compromising sharpness.

According to Eileen Mannion, Vice President of Marketing at Google UK: “Christmas movies hold a unique and cherished place in the hearts of Britons, and nostalgia plays a key role in what they love most about them. ‘It’s Pixel, Actually’ is our Christmas love letter to them.”
