Pepsi’s World Cup advert redefines the rules of football from the fans’ perspective.
The World Cup is approaching and although Coca-Cola is one of the official sponsors, Pepsi couldn’t stay behind. To do so, it has brought in its biggest stars to present its new campaign for the tournament.
The brand focuses on those who truly give meaning to the game: the fans. It gives them full power to shape the beautiful game as they wish.
Pepsi – Football Nation
The Pepsi advert for the World Cup is titled “Football Nation” and features the brand’s biggest stars. David Beckham, Mohamed Salah, Vinícius Jr., Lauren James and Alexia Putellas headline this more-than-three-minute piece, breaking current advertising duration standards.
The narrative begins with Beckham handing control of football over to the fans, inviting them to define the rules of this universe called “Football Nation.” From there, the advert becomes a sequence of vibrant scenes that capture the essence of fandom: endless debates, rivalries, superstitions, and a passion that defies logic.
One of the most striking moments in the Pepsi advert comes with the classic debate over whether it should be called “football” or “soccer,” where the brand clearly aligns itself with the European tradition. There is also room for contemporary topics such as VAR and the curious habits of fans, like wearing their team’s jersey after an important victory.
The brand stated in a release: “Football does not belong to institutions or players, but to those who live it, debate it, and feel it every day.”
