Sainsbury’s Christmas commercial puts the spotlight on one of the dilemmas of Christmas: Christmas Pudding.

The Christmas commercials of the Sainsbury’s supermarket chain have been recreating those traditional scenes that the English have to celebrate Christmas for a few years. They left the blockbusters aside after that fantastic “1914” in 2014 to follow the same line of communication.

Now they retell a fantasy story to put the focus on the central Christmas debate: The Christmas Pudding. And it is that the popular Christmas dessert is not having the acceptance that it had in the past and the new generations are revealed: A lot of people do not like it.

“Once Upod a Pud” (“Once upon a time there was a pudding”) is the title of Sainsbury’s Christmas commercial. It has been made by the Wieden + Kennedy subsidiary in London. In it they recreate a Christmas season in the apartments of an English countess in medieval times. The staging is very reminiscent of the popular series “The Bridgertons” and, in the style of a traditional story, the chefs present their creations for Christmas dinner.

Everything goes smoothly until the young chef who prepares the pudding is disappointed by the countess, since she confesses that she has never liked pudding. It is then that the cook leaves to create a new recipe for the popular dessert that the countess may like.

All to promote Sainsbury’s “Taste the Difference” premium range, which creates new recipes for the most traditional dishes.

The Sainsbury’s Christmas advert features TV presenter Alison Hammond and famous writer Stephen Fry doing the voiceover. The ad’s song is a version of the popular song “Teenage Dirtbag” created by the group Wheatus.
