Uber’s Christmas advert reinvents its emotional narrative to connect with the outskirts of the city.
The transportation company Uber has been paying special attention to its advertising campaigns for some time now. Together with the agency Mother, it has delivered some of the best campaigns of the year. And the same care has been applied to its Christmas advert.
Uber has launched an emotional holiday campaign in the United States. With it, the brand seeks to strengthen its presence in suburban areas while reflecting on family relationships during a particularly sensitive time of year.
Uber – Close
The Uber Christmas advert is titled “Close”. It was created by the agency Mother, directed by Michael Spiccia, and produced by MJZ.
The piece stars a young woman returning home for Christmas, taking an Uber ride from the airport toward the suburbs. That journey becomes an emotional trip through memories she shares with her father: childhood games, early goodbyes, and an argument that still weighs on their relationship.
The ride, however, is also an opportunity for reconciliation. When she reaches her destination, the protagonist decides to build a bridge and reconnect with her father, turning an everyday moment into a deeply meaningful experience — all set to a version by James Blake of the classic “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac.
According to Felix Richter, Chief Creative Officer at Mother: “We wanted to show an emotional journey within a real ride. A heartfelt family story in the context of the holidays, accompanied by a moving song.”
Meanwhile, Georgie Jeffreys, Marketing Director at Uber North America, commented: “We reimagined how Uber fits into daily life outside the cities, because wherever you are, there’s a driver you can rely on.”
