Without a doubt, from an advertising standpoint, Uber Eats is on a roll. Recently, it won the Emmy for Best Advert of the Year with its campaign starring Brian Cox. Now, it delights us with another humorous campaign featuring Antonio Banderas as the star.

This time, the famous actor unexpectedly receives a Goya award, which drags him into a controversy he never intended. The piece showcases Uber Eats’ trademark style, which the brand has been consistently implementing over time.

The Uber Eats advert with Antonio Banderas is titled “Unexpected Goya” and was created by the agency Ogilvy and produced by Roma. The campaign continues its concept that with Uber Eats you can order almost anything.

The spot shows Antonio Banderas in an everyday situation that quickly turns into surreal chaos. What begins as a simple home delivery ends up with the arrival of a real “Unexpected Goya.”

The campaign blends humor with iconic references to Spanish culture, reinterpreting works by Francisco de Goya such as The Third of May 1808, The Clothed Maja, or The Half-Submerged Dog. There’s even a comical nod to the famous “Ecce Homo,” here turned into a botched restoration that adds to the absurd tone of the story.

According to Patricia Medeiros and Pablo Cachón, creative directors at Ogilvy: “Working with such an iconic actor as Antonio Banderas has been a true privilege. His warmth and recognition have been key to connecting emotionally with the Spanish consumer.”

Meanwhile, Gianluca Benincasa, Head of Marketing at Uber Eats in Southern Europe, said: “The idea that you can order almost anything allows us to play with such outlandish situations as this one. And having Antonio Banderas as the lead gives us the chance to do it with humor, warmth, and a nod to the best of Spanish culture.”
