The Marks and Spencer Christmas advert tells the story of a magical snow globe.

Christmas adverts are already in full swing and brands are launching their advertising campaigns to prepare us for the festive season. Amazon’s Christmas advert, as well as those of Sainsbury’s, Deutsche Telekom and M&S Food are currently taking the cake.

One of the latest brands to present its Christmas advert is Marks and Spencer. The British multinational specialising in the sale of clothing, household products and luxury food products has brought us a story told through a little girl and her peculiar snow globe.

M&S – Clothing and Home 2024

“Clothing and Home” is the title of the Marks and Spencer Christmas advert made by the agency Mother. It was directed by Emmy nominee Elliot Power and choreographed by Corey Baker, known for his work on the film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

The piece shows us how, in a Christmas without snow and with the loss of the festive spirit, a little girl will be able to bring back joy with her magic snowball. Shaking her snowball, she will move her family from one side of the room to the other. She will make hundreds of balls cascade down the staircase in the hallway and magical moments will begin to take place where the laws of physics bend as if the whole house were a snowball.

According to Anna Braithwaite, marketing director for M&S clothing and home: “Christmas is a key event for many of our customers, a time to get together as a family and create special memories. This year, our Christmas campaign incorporates a playful and fantasy approach, highlighting the magic of the season. We showcase the best of M&S with exceptional quality, stylish clothing and innovative, fun gifts, all at great prices.”

Director Elliott Power commented: “The excitement of children at Christmas is contagious, reminding us of how we used to feel and taking us back in time; the piece is a festive flight of imagination through the eyes of a child, a visual spectacle with a playful tone, with beautifully elevated festive fashion integrated throughout.”

Choreographer Corey Baker commented: “The choreography and movement leans towards physical theatre – think unconventional positions in conventional spaces. We wanted to create something that felt familiar yet dreamlike and fun – a fantastical show that conveys that comforting sense of Christmas joy.”
