“It’s Playtime” the funny Virgin Media commercial
Publicis Dublin has been in charge of the advertising campaign

Virgin Media’s commercial depicts fun with some toys escaping into fun.
The entertainment sector is booming more than ever. When in the past it was Netflix that dared to break through a non-existent market, today there is no known audiovisual group that has its own entertainment platform. There are those that cover music, audiovisual content and video games. There are even some who have it all at once.
With the rise of these platforms, internet providers play a crucial role so that the user experience is complete. One of them is Virgin Media, the UK broadband service provider launching an advertising campaign.
“It’s Playtime” is the title of the Virgin Media commercial made by the agency Publicis Dublin, produced by Antidote Films and post-produced by Freefolk. The advertising campaign is based on a study carried out by the agency in which for many people, the serious side of their existence gets in the way of having a good time.
Under this premise, the Virgin Media commercial shows us some toys on a store shelf. But they are not superheroes or movie characters. They are bland representations of the bored worker: a financial adviser, an IT specialist or a data analyst. Everyone tries to escape to join the party atmosphere that takes place in the store at night to the rhythm of “Word Up!” from the Cameo group.
According to Ger Roe, Executive Creative Director of Publicis Dublin: “We know that being constantly connected is often a burden, so we wanted phones and televisions to stop being tools and go back to being toys. The time to play is different for everyone and with this campaign how being a Virgin Media customer influences the small and big things in life”.
