Burger King’s latest campaign has been to rename an island in the middle of the Indian Ocean and call it “Whopper Island.”

One of the great rivalries in the world of advertising is that of Burger King and McDonald’s. Although both set the pace in advertising, the bickering between them is constant, with Burger King being the one that mentions the competition the most.

Now it has been proposed to change the name of an island in the middle of the Pacific, an island with an active volcano that is paradoxically called… McDonald. Thus, the American multinational has taken the opportunity to send a message to its rival and in the process launch an original advertising campaign.

“Whopper Island” is the title of the Burger King campaign launched in Brazil and designed by the DM9 agency. The idea? rename an island after McDonald in the middle of the Indian Ocean. An island discovered in the 19th century and which has been a territory of Australia since 1947.

The peculiarity of this island is that it is uninhabited and there is an active volcano that constantly spits out lava and fire. The brand claims its status as a specialist in grilled burgers to be able to change the name to “Whopper Island.”

Burger King’s campaign is filmed as a fake documentary questioning the name of the island and inviting their fans to help them change the name. To do this, those who visit the coordinates (53º04’35.69″S 73º30’49.18) and leave a comment with the hashtag #IlhaWhopper will receive discount coupons.
