Undoubtedly, the star product of Super Bowl commercials are snacks. We recently saw how Pop Corners brought together the main characters of Breaking Bad for their campaign. And now it is Doritos who counterattacks with Jack Harlon and Elton John in their advertisement for the most watched event on the planet.

And it is that the brand, owned by Pepsi and Frito-Lay does not want to give up its share of leadership in the middle part of the Super Bowl that will face the Philadelphia Eagles with the Kansas City Chiefs.

“Jack’s new angle” is the title of Doritos’ Super Bowl commercial. Previously, the brand released teasers where the producers were looking for a new hit for the brand. The piece tells us the story of rapper Jack Harlow when he runs out of ideas to compose his next big hit. He was soon inspired by Doritos in the triangle, that metal instrument belonging to the idiophones that sounds when struck by a metal rod.

The hit created is expanding throughout the world and with it, a new way of discovering the instrument for all artists. Personalities like Sway Calloway and his co-anchor Heather B. give in to the discovery. But it’s not until the end of the Doritos ad that, at a gala simulating the Grammys, Elton John wins the award out of amazement from Jack Harlow.

Doritos launched a challenge on TikTok with the name #DoritosTriangleTryout. This invited consumers to find someone skilled enough to appear in the ad. The winner, Angelita Yadao-Payad from Hawaii, appears in the piece.

According to the brand, in a statement: “Doritos will be the first brand to recreate its Super Bowl commercial in Metaverse, offering fans the opportunity to produce and record their own triangle-inspired musical beats inside Decentraland at Doritos Triangle Studios to have the chance to win epic prizes.”
