The Great Western Railway commercial is a lively gem
The agency adam&eveDDB has been in charge of the advertising campaign

The Great Western Railway advertisement features the family of “The Famous Five” by English writer Enid Blyton.
At Eslogan Magazine we have a soft spot for animated advertising campaigns. They are little animated jewels more similar to a short film than a classic advertisement. They are campaigns that their idiosyncrasy makes them perennial over time, as they do not go out of style. This is the case of Volkswagen’s “The Last Mile” campaign, winner of the best commercial of 2020 selected by our magazine.
Now, the British railway company Great Western Railway has launched its advertising campaign with “The Famous Five”, the characters written by Enid Blyton.
“Five Get There First” is the title of the Great Western Railway commercial created by the agency adam&eveDDB to promote the benefits of rail travel over the automobile. For this they have decided to tell a story starring the “Famous Five”; the protagonists of the collection of books by the English writer Enid Blyton published between 1940 and 1960.
The Great Western Railway commercial opens with Uncle Quentin and Aunt Fanny saying goodbye to the children as they leave for a day at the beach. Some will do it by car, others by train while they play to see who will arrive first. How could it be otherwise, Uncle Quentin and Aunt Fanny have a terrible car trip, while the little ones have a more pleasant trip where they can enjoy the views.
The campaign focuses on the four benefits of rail travel: speed, sustainability, comfort and socialization. The idea is to communicate the experience of traveling by train in a fun and enjoyable way.
